3M Scotchlite 8910 is a retro-reflective, silver fabric for high-visibility in low-light and nighttime conditions. When illuminated by a light source such as car headlights, 3M 8910 shines a brilliant white making it detectable from 1500 – 2000 feet. That gives on-coming drivers between 17 – 22 seconds to notice you. Compare that to non-reflective clothing, giving drivers only 2 seconds to notice you as it’s only detectable at about 150 feet. 3M 8910 gives you over 10 times the distance and 10 times the seconds for drivers to see you. Because 3M 8910 is a flexible fabric, it can be sewn on to just about any garment. What’s retro-reflective, you ask? Pondering something vintage? Not exactly -  it’s a surface that returns a large portion of light back to its source, even appearing brighter when the object is closer to the light source. How’s that even possible you might ask? Well, 3M 8910 accomplishes this with millions of tiny, high-performance glass beads bonded to the fabric. Because these micro-beads are spherical, they reflect light in all directions. The micro beads even act like tiny magnifying glasses and reflect light brighter at closer distances. We know, now you’re thinking you’re going to cut yourself on the glass beads or they’ll break. Don’t worry, that won’t happen, the beads are microscopic, so the fabric is easily cut with a scissors. Once sewn on, it can be both machined washed as well as dry cleaned. And no, wearing 3M 8910 in bright sunlight won’t create a solar death-ray from all those micro-bead lenses (leave that to Destroyer in Thor) but you will be more noticeable.
So what exactly can you do with 3M 8910? Well, you can sew it onto just about anything you need to be more noticeable at night or in low-light conditions. Finally found the perfect cycling shorts but want to become a night-rider? Sew 3M 8910 onto them and you’re sure to be seen. Walking your dog at night and need to be seen along the road?
